Background and Project description

If you have a small to mid-sized business, you have your sights on managing your business and remaining competitive in your industry. Unfortunately, it may not occur to you that some of the systems you rely on for day-to-day operations are outdated and inefficient. If you’re anything like Life Got Better Staffing Services, you and your employees may be using paper forms, keeping physical records, or using old, glitchy software. Running your business this way is tedious, slows you down, and increases the risk of errors that could have serious consequences. At the very least, inefficient processes impact your time and, ultimately your bottom line. For Life Got Better, this was a significant concern. LGB Staffing Services is a growing business with a simple but important mission: “To connect nurses and caregivers to healthcare facilities in need of clinical support, providing flexible schedules and daily pay for nurses, facilitating consistent coverage for facilities, and ensuring quality care for the people they serve.” The leaders at LGB wanted to carry out this mission while maximizing efficiency and profits, but they realized their antiquated procedures were holding them back. Most of their procedures were carried out using paper forms in binders. When a healthcare facility was searching for medical professionals, they had to call LGB, who then made numerous phone calls to find a qualified candidate that was available at the given time and met the facility’s needs. This manual process wasted valuable time and opportunities for nurses, healthcare administrators, and LGB agents alike. This lack of productivity also limited the number of customers they could accommodate, and less business meant less cash flow. They reached out to Symphony for a custom software solution to streamline their procedures and connect nurses with employers quickly and easily.

Our Challenge

No existing healthcare apps met their specific needs, meaning we had to develop the software entirely from scratch. We work closely with our clients like LGB Staffing to understand their exact goals. We brainstorm together and often identify needs that the client didn’t recognize themselves. Here the principal aim for the project was to develop a web portal and mobile app that was intuitive and user-friendly so that its users would immediately see its benefits and continue to engage. The portal and app needed to serve the needs of multiple audiences: administrators, nurses and healthcare facilities. While many of the features would apply to both, each needed to be geared to the specific type of user in order to maximize efficiency and ease of use.

The Solution

Part of each of our software development projects is to gain a very detailed picture of the exact requirments needed to fill the customers need. We often go through multiple rounds of discussion and revision to arrive at the final scope and fuctional specification. The bullet lists below show some of the granularity that we produce. When Symphony Software received all the necessary information from LGB Staffing, we conceptualized a web portal and mobile app with some fantastic features

Design Samples

Our UX/UI Designer, together with a Business Analyst, created sketches and design samples of the project. This step gave a better understanding of the core service functionality and how distinct features interconnect.

To prepare the design samples for the project, a specific design questionnaire was sent to the client. This practice is done to collect design requirements and match the design style, color scheme with the client’s vision.

The client provided our team with a color scheme, which we used during the design phase. According to the requirements, we created 2 design samples with different stylistics for the client to choose from. Client was ecstatic to see the first designs and didn’t ask for any revisions. We presented client with 2 logo options and they loved both options so much that it took them a week to pick one of those. We then went on to complete rest of the designs and continued interacting with client weekly to seek feedback and present progress.

Description of User Roles

Nurses (iOS, Android and Web apps)

Nurses are able to achieve the following with a very simple User Interface:

Employer (iOS, Android and Web App)

Employers are able to sign up using very simple user interface, set up various facilities and add facility managers to manager each facility.

They can perform the following functions inside the platform:
